Weatherwise this week, South West England has experienced a summer heatwave. At Woody Bay the daily steam train operations continue without problems as the visitors enjoy their train ride - perhaps as an alternative to risking more sunburn at the North Devon beaches.

The weather report for Thursday was a "Yellow Alert" and we were expecting the worst and so it seems were most of North Devon. This affected the passenger numbers a little. We were joined for the week by three members of the Surrey Group who worked on the second wagon, which was started by us last week. They continued derusting the metalwork and filling holes, and by Thursday had given it a coat of red oxide and an undercoat, ready to give it its top coat of SR Brown on Friday. They also carried out other tasks around Woody Bay Station.

Many thanks to them for all their hard work - it's been a great help. Come back soon! They stayed at Distant Point, Chelfham Station, care of Barry Marshal.

Last Friday Bagnall loco No.3023 (which is expected to be spending some time at the L&B in the not too distant future) was readied for transport from Ian Howitt's Wakefield workshop to the Ffestiniog Railway's Boston Lodge Works where the loco's restoration will be completed. The loco was loaded for transport with the aid of a rather large crane as these pictures supplied by Murray Dods show.
