Our volunteers rail trip was in tribute to our missed friend, Bob Ayres, who passed away recently. Bob would have enjoyed the usual camaraderie among his fellow L&B enthusiastic volunteers.
For the record, we went from Barnstaple to Exmouth (model shop, cafes, and market patronised). Lunch and ale at Exeter at the Georges Meeting Rooms, where we all raised a glass for Bob.
The L&BRT has been given two desirable pieces of framed artwork. These are offered for sale by auction to raise funds for future expansion of the L&BR
The first is a print of a painting by Terence Cuneo titled ‘Ffestiniog Workhorses’. The print is 22” x 17” and the frame 31 ½” x 28 ½”. Signed by the man himself – Terence Cuneo and is number 198 of 850.
Two of the L&B Tyer’s No 6 tablet instruments were missing both their tablet slides and polarising relays. This post concerns the making of replacements.
Another Polarising Relay.
Having already made one new polarising relay incorporating some components from the spares box, fewer parts were available this time to use as a starting point for the new relay – just the coils (borrowed from a spare electric lock), the moving contact strip, one fixed contact post, and a wire wound resistor. The pictures below show stages in the construction.
A fantastic weekend for everyone at all the L&BR sites. Nigel writes "I 'escaped' briefly from Chelfham on Saturday to check things out at Woody Bay, before returning to help ensure all the visitors enjoyed their Chelfham visit".
Several invited guests as well as various L&B Directors and staff, together with the regular Chelfham volunteers were proud to enjoy the unveiling of the Hendy & Pendle Trust Volunteers, National Railway Heritage Award plaque by the Devon North MP, Selaine Saxby
Chelfham project leader, Nigel Thompson, introduced Andy Savage (until recently, Chairman of NHRA) who gave a short talk complimenting the L&BR's contribution to Railway Heritage at Chelfham, before Selaine Saxby unveiled the awards plaque.
