Work in Progress: 12th July

The weather report for Thursday was a "Yellow Alert" and we were expecting the worst and so it seems were most of North Devon. This affected the passenger numbers a little. It turned out not to be as bad as we expected but was still a very wet day at Woody Bay. The weather being very wet (nothing unusual), the pictures are rather hurried and lighting not too good. The pictures don't show the rain but I'm sure your imagination can add it!

Unfortunately we had two outside jobs to undertake:

First the moving of the crew shed back closer to the bank mentioned in last weeks report. The shed first had to be moved out over the track so sleepers could be put under the rear.

The second job was clearing scrap metal from inside the engine shed which gave us time to dry out a bit.

Then back out into the rain again at the rear of the engine shed to clear brambles and scrap so the track can be re-aligned and levelled.

John O'dell and I managed to find a dry job inside working on the second box van which has now got its first top coat of SR brown.

Unsurprisingly, only one coach party arrived today courtesy of Bluebird Executive Coaches of Weymouth who were booked in for the 3:45 train

1. Crew Shed about to be moved back closer to the bank. L-R Richard Willey, John O'dell, John Villers and Graham Varney.

2. Today's Engine crew taking a well earned lunch break in the dry. L-R Driver Pete Williams, Guard Bob Ayres, and Fireman Jim Price.

3. A view at the rear of the engine shed clearing weeds and scrap. Distant Graham Varney near John Villers, Martyn Budd and Richard Willey.

4. Loco crew posing in front of Axe in the rain.

5. John O'dell working on the second box van, now painted brown.

6. The Bluebird coach in the car park awaiting its returning passengers.

7. The 3:45 train having just returned
to from Killington Lane in very heavy rain.
