Weatherwise this week, South West England has experienced a summer heatwave. At Woody Bay the daily steam train operations continue without problems as the visitors enjoy their train ride - perhaps as an alternative to risking more sunburn at the North Devon beaches.
Nevertheless healthy passenger figures have been recorded, boosted by the regular coach visits bringing many first-time visitors to the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway.
1. A fine view of AXE on the train awaiting departure from Killington Lane.
2. Later AXE is seen arriving at Killington Lane with a train from Woody Bay.
3. The main work today for the Thursday volunteers track gang was essential maintenance on the loop line track at Killington Lane. Dave Bloomfield, Graham Bendell and Jim McFarlane fix a new sleeper in place.
Back at Woody Bay John O'Dell, Tim Woods and Dave Drayson successfully kept cool working in the shed, re-roofing the 3rd ex-MoD Box Van as part of the programme to refurbish and repaint the works train wagon fleet. SR Brown-liveried No.47064 - used for P.W. tools storage - was worked on today.
