Work in Progress: 19th July

1. A 'new locomotive' arrived at Woody Bay this week! The frames of "YEO" were constructed as part of a project, started in 1996, to build a replica of the original L&BR Manning Wardle. Having been in store at the Gartell Railway, the frames were collected and transferred to be stored on display at Woody Bay.

2. "YEO" s frames on display on Bogie flat SR 28321 in the loading dock. Later this summer it is expected that these frames will be cleaned and repainted for prominent display at the Autumn Steam Gala, to attract further interest in restarting this ambitious project.

3. A size comparison between the locomotives as AXE runs past YEO's frames.

4. Todays main job for the Thursday Gang was to clear unwanted railway equipment for scrapping. The MoD Box Vans stored in the 'Lynton end cutting' had been full of unsuitable standard gauge railway equipment most of which would require considerable expenditure, inpection and testing to ever reuse or sell on.

5. A rare view on these reports of the 'Lynton end cutting' behind the shed, as volunteers move surplus equipment and other scrap to the road skip on the flat wagon.

6. Signalling engineer and Volunteer of the Year Dick Gunn was on site today to grease up all the pointwork around the site as part of the on-going progaramme of routine maintenance

7. Dave Drayson adjusts the wiring inside the train crew shed after it was moved last week to allow clearance for the new heritage carriages expected to arrive next year.

General Managers Equipment Fund Purchases

8. This is a London & South Western Evans O'Donnell 4 lever 'knee frame' purchased from the Mid-Hants Railway. After restoration, it is to be used as part of the extension to Blackmoor

9. Also purchased using the proceeds of the General Manager's Equipment Fund Signalling Appeal, was a wagon-load of straight point rodding.

10. The point rodding laid out on the flat wagon. Thanks to all those who contributed to this fund.

11. Finally, this kit of parts makes up even more lever frames, for future signalling installations.

Our thanks to all those generous people who made this purchase possible.
