The Autumn Gala is over now for another year, so the volunteers at Woody Bay can relax a bit? Not a bit of it! Trains continue to run and, in December, we will be running Santa Specials, so there is still plenty of work to keep everyone fully occupied.
As always, Nigel Thompson was on hand to record activities
The L&Bs Annual Autumn Gala this year features L&B engines 'Axe' and 'Sid' in steam together for the first time. Trains will run continuously as required all day.
Exmoor Enterprise, the project body set up by the L&B Trust to manage the extension of the railway from Lynton to Wistlandpound, has made, as part of the process, several presentations to local councils and residents over the last year. The latest presentation was held on Tuesday 15th September 2009 at Parracombe Village PACT (Partners And Communities Together) public meeting.
Final preparations for the Autumn Steam Gala were the main tasks today for the Thursday gang. Early in the morning the digger was in action trimming all the grass on the bank below the car park. This tidying up improves visibility at the photographer's viewpoint for trains approaching Woody Bay.
Bright, sunny weather assisted with the ongoing preparations for the Autumn Gala. With SID newly arrived and work required to prepare her for the Gala there is still plenty to keep everyone fully occupied.

In preparation for next week's Autumn Gala, Axe has been joined at Woody Bay by Sid - 0-4-0WT Maffei loco no 4127 built in 1925 - owned by a conglomerate of L&B Trust members.
Sid first arrived at Woody Bay in August 2007. After handling the bulk of steam train operation in 2007/08 Sid was withdrawn from service a year later for overhaul of cylinders, wheels and boiler.
Most of the regular volunteers have had their summer holidays recently so today it was a good turnout for the Thursday gang. A variety of tasks were carried out during the day although at tea break and lunch time the mess room was almost full of thirsty volunteers enjoying the usual L&B chat and gossip.
