More land secured for the L&B by EA!

At a meeting at Bratton Fleming Sports Club on 11 October, it was announced that Exmoor Associates had recently purchased another section of L&B trackbed. As the purchase is not yet complete the precise location of this new acquisition will be publicly revealed at a later date

L&B Project Receives Barnstaple Town Council's Unanimous Support

Recently received from Trustee and Director Ian Cowling - "I am pleased to let you know that following an Exmoor Enterprise presentation on behalf of the Trust to the Transport sub-committee on September 3rd; at a full council meeting last night Barnstaple Town Council voted unanimously to support the project. The Councillors were clearly very supportive of the project as a whole and looking forward to the day when Barnstaple is once again the southern terminus of the L&B."

Manning Wardle Worksplate Sold at Auction

At the Great Central Railwayana Auction held on 3 October 2009, the worksplate from Lynton & Barnstaple Railway loco No.1362 Exe sold for £6300.

When delivered new from Manning Wardle each of the three locos were fitted with a pair of these - one to each cabside. When the Southern took over the railway in the 1920's the worksplates were removed and replaced by Eastleigh Works plates. Exe becoming E160

Woody Bay Venue for Volunteers Birthday Party Saturday 3 October

Last Saturday Woody Bay was the venue for a party to celebrate the 70th birthday of volunteer Bill Flecknoe (left) and Eddie Mills's 60th.  Over 40 of Bill and Eddie's family and friends came to the station for a train ride and to celebrate the special occasion.

Peter Liley, son of  Lynton Stationmaster Stan, recently passed away in America, where he had lived for some years.

Gala Extra - Former Chairman Charles Gardner visits L&B

1. Former chairman Charles Gardner (right) catching up with current chairman Peter Miles at the Autumn Gala.  Charles who was heavily involved with the initial planning application, had been unable to visit Woody Bay for several years due to family and business commitments, was clearly taken by what he saw - and so were his two young children.
