Bright sunny weather at Woody Bay today as the Thursday gang continued the post-Gala clear up jobs. Our own main marquee tent which is used as the outdoor tea rooms during the season was dismantled and taken down for winter storage.
After the very successful and well organised Gala, it was up to the volunteers of the Thursday Group to gradually get everything back to normal at Woody Bay. Whilst we awaited the lorries from Wales to collect LYD and the two coaches (the last of which will be returned on Friday 8th October), there were several tasks carried out by the gang on this Thursday.
Litter bins were emptied and repositioned, smaller gazebos and tents were taken down and into store.
Many visitors to Woody Bay over the Gala Weekend took photos and videos of Lyd's (and Lyn's) first appearance at Woody Bay, and of the other attractions and events. Here are a few of them:
Phil Rawstron, Nick Brown and Peter Jones of the L&BR Trust Surrey Group travelled down to Devon this weekend to begin a working week assisting in the Gala preparations.
Their main job today was to begin constructing and painting several large wooden board signs which will be used at Woody Bay and the park and rides at Caffyns and Blackmoor Gate for the Gala.
We were privileged to be invited to join the Lyd Supporters special train on the WHR yesterday, which was the first passenger-carrying train hauled by Lyd.
In the morning we replaced the arris rails at the occupation crossings.
These wooden rails are fixed each side of the crossing to prevent animals straying onto the line. They had been removed so the line could be lifted and packed to level.
1. Graham and Brom position the rail watched by Jim with Len as lookout.
