After the Remembrance service was over, and the special train returned to Woody Bay, the Regular Thursday gang redressed to the usual bright orange coats to assist in carrying out a variety of tasks today as directed by General Manager, Martyn Budd.

The 2010 season on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway came to an end on Sunday 31st October. Will Curry was there and recorded these views, including of the last train - until December that is!

General Manager Martyn Budd was extremely pleased with the high turnout of volunteers today despite the misty damp weather on Exmoor and the very reduced visibility. More than a dozen people were on hand during the day with the mess room becoming very busy at the lunch and tea breaks. Although a couple of the regulars were away on other business, the 'Thursday Gang' was boosted by further 'new volunteers' - Mike Hamilton and Dave Drayson.

"The Possible Dream"

"The weekend of 25-27 September marked a major landmark in narrow gauge heritage, for what would once have been considered ‘project impossible’ became reality – a Lynton & Barnstaple Manning Wardle 2-6-2T pulling into Woody Bay station, with a train which included one of the original coaches.

Two separate tasks today for the Thursday group. In the morning we drove down to Chelfham. The job here was to move sections of the original Howard Van under cover and to collect a surplus steel framework for transportation to Killington Lane for future despatch.

Before the rain took hold, the Thursday gang suitably dressed all over in orange as usual, worked in the overflow car park field to dismantle two stored ex MOD 2'6" gauge turnouts.

Today, we replaced some rotten sleepers in the running line.  We had only four to replace, so we had a nice easy day. Before the rest of the gang arrived and before the service trains start Martyn Budd and Dave Blencowe delivered the new sleepers where needed.
