Work in Progress - 2 September

In the morning we replaced the arris rails at the occupation crossings.
These wooden rails are fixed each side of the crossing to prevent animals straying onto the line. They had been removed so the line could be lifted and packed to level.

1. Graham and Brom position the rail watched by Jim with Len as lookout.

2. Graham and Brom clear ballast to make the rail fit.

3. When Axe was hauling the passenger train past, we all had a nice convenient gate to lean on. I am not sure Brom was happy to be in the foreground of this photo!

After lunch we moved some of a huge pile of gravel to the 7 1/4" line. This gravel is being used for drainage work between the line and the Devon bank.

4. The digger is used to carry bags of gravel from one end of the car park to the other. Just think how many wheelbarrow loads are in that bag!

 5. The digger moves the gravel closer to the ditch.
