Praise for the Woody Bay Tea Rooms

Four of us had lunch at the Woody bay station cafe while we were waiting to take a trip on the train during the 2nd week of August.  My husband and I live locally and our guests were from London.

I have to say it was the best lunch we have had locally - not only was it delicious and beautifully prepared, but the service was exceptional.  What a gem!

Unsettled weather during August has kept many visitors off the beach and enjoying the inland tourist attractions and the L & B R at Woody Bay has benefited from this recently.  So our thanks must go to all the staff/volunteers who have kept the railway running each day without problems - train crews, booking office, catering and engineering as well as those mostly unseen and unknown working behind the scenes.

A wet and drizzly day at Woody Bay.  A few members of the Thursday volunteers wisely remained in the dry, working on the various projects in the shed, but outside there was the main permanent way task of re-railing the track in the loading dock- the first panel underneath Van 23 was re-railed last week with the heavier 50lb. weight ex MoD rail.

With apologies for lateness! Another successful operating day with AXE and her 4 carriages performing well as the visitors and coach parties came and went.

For the work party today tasks included electrical work in the shed, more progress inside the ex MoD Brake Van - now nearing completion, and attention to the stored right-hand turnout at Killington Lane currently being regauged.

SID was back in traffic earlier this week but required further adjustments to one of the washout plugs after her long layoff .
