The L&B can today bask in the glory of our magazine being a winner in this years Heritage Railway Association's Publications Competition.
On behalf of the Heritage Railway Association I have great pleasure in informing you that you have won the "Under 500" class for 2010. The formal presentation will take place at Porthmadoc on the 24th September 2011 at The Sportsman Hotel.
Very well done and I look forward to meeting you in September.
Regards
Clifford Jones Heritage Railway Association Publication Competition Officer
Tony Nicholson, our magazine editor of some several years standing, was naturally delighted with this accolade, but was also puzzled about winning in the "Under 500" Class when we actually have over 2,000 members.
Clifford Jones explains: The "Under 500 Class" is a hangover from an earlier era of preservation, whilst all organisations will undoubtedly go through a year (or less) of 500 members, (to survive in the marketplace a membership of 2000 is thought to be the cut off point) - the publications that are produced need to be excellent to get to a larger membership.
With the quality of publications as part of the formula, you won on quality.
The Under 500 Class will survive as the word 'new' creates time scale issues.
Hope this puts you at relative ease and remember "the judges word is final"
Regards
Clifford
