Another busy day at Woody Bay with the car park almost full up at times. The Brend and Shearings coaches also helped to swell the numbers to over 340 carried today. As well as scenes depicted on the pictures below, other tasks carried out today were:
a weedkilling train working along the line and sidings at Woody Bay.
strimming and tidying of lineside undergrowth by the headshunt.
collecting dropped coal along the lineside.
a shunt around of wagons to position bogie open SR No.28320 for coal loading.
loading No.28320 with coal by the digger.
cleaning up of the 2 ex MoD flat wagons bogies currently undergoing regauging.
1. The last railings fence panel on the up platform was cleaned and repainted today. It was Richard Willey's turn to wield the angle grinder wire brush on this panel.
2. Fireman Jim Price loads coal from the coaling stage into AXE's bunker during a servicing layover period between trains.
3. Jim's favourite driver today was Eddie Mills.
4. Dave Tooke as Guard helps people into the carriage compartments.
5. The two Brend Tours coaches in the entrance drive.
6. AXE with the train arrives back at Woody Bay.
7. In the shed, Dave Bloomfield carries out further electrical work to provide more 110V sockets for the power tools used in the paint shop section.
8. A 'framed' John O'Dell has made some detachable windows for the brake van nearing completion.
9. & 10. From within Van 23 Ian Milloy helps to remove the Handbrake column
.
The bogies and frame for the heritage Brake Composite carriage, No.17, are almost completed. Transferring this historic brake column originally from the scrapped coach left at Snapper will help to finally complete the braking and underframe gear of Coach 17. Although Van 23 can be moved on its replica bogies, the braking gear had not been connected, and the brake column has been on show for several years at Woody Bay.
11. Andy Foster takes his turn to mow the grass in the 'beer tent' area near the shed, whilst AXE is serviced between trips.
12. The last train of the day goes down the line seen from the overflow car park field.
