Fishplate Oiling and Greasing - The final day of the 2011 programme.

I'm pleased to report that the fishplate oiling and greasing programme for 2011 has been completed. Despite showery weather at Killington Lane today, the volunteers continued working on the rail joints down the line past the second occupation crossing into Killington Lane station, along the headshunt and back up the loop line.  To read more about this essential process click here.

7.25" gauge miniature railway extension construction work.

Project leader, Alistair Hall was at Woody Bay all weekend to continue the tracklaying helped by Dave Bloomfield, Jim McFarlane and Martyn Budd.

Surrey Group at Eastbourne Show

The Surrey Support Group attended the one day Eastbourne Model Railway Exhibition on Saturday, 9th April. The stand raised a lot of interest amongst the visitors that will hopefully result in two new people joining the L&BR Trust. Sales were modest, the ‘Perchance’ DVD, ‘Thomas’ toys and the current issue of the L&BR Magazine were the main items of interest.

Nigel Thompson was on site once again on Sunday and sent us this report :

D6652 the 'new' (as yet unnamed) Hunslet diesel, was given a test run today to assess its mechanics. All went well and the loco appears to be in good condition given its time out of service.

Although most of the weekly news reports feature the "Thursday Gang", we must not forget we are now open seven days a week and considerable useful effort is put in by volunteers on other days.

This week Nigel Thompson went along to Woody Bay on a Wednesday for a change to assist and report on the activities of those volunteers who help out as part of the 'Wednesday'  Gang".

On Saturday, ex-Dean Hill Hunslet 6652 our “new” diesel loco made it's first foray onto L&B metals courtesy of the regauged wheelsets recently returned from Towyn, enabling the loco to move from the car park to the shed for the first time.
