Fishplate Oiling and Greasing - The final day of the 2011 programme.
I'm pleased to report that the fishplate oiling and greasing programme for 2011 has been completed. Despite showery weather at Killington Lane today, the volunteers continued working on the rail joints down the line past the second occupation crossing into Killington Lane station, along the headshunt and back up the loop line. 1. Richard, Dave and John work on a rail joint near Killington Lane.
2. Graham Bendell and new volunteer Alex Colborn slacken off the fishplate bolts near the occupation crossing.
3. After a rain break and lunch back at Woody Bay, the gang returned to quickly grease the rail joints through Killington Lane station line pausing briefly whilst AXE arrives with an afternoon service.
4. AXE with the four coach passenger train after arrival at Killington Lane.
5. Another heavy rain shower and the volunteers adjourned to shelter in the Brake Van stabled in the siding.
6. Later the rain stopped and there was time to grease up the rail joints in the loop line. The gang gather round as the last rail joint is completed.
Our thanks and gratitude to all those who helped during this years rail joint oiling and greasing programme: Graham Bendell, Dave Blencowe, Dave Bloomfield, Martyn Budd, Alex Colborn, Dave Drayson, Len Howse, Jim McFarlane, Nigel Thompson, Dave Tooke, John Villers, Richard Willey, and of course the railway dogs -Sam and Fred!
