North Devon District Council ran the Lynton and Lynmouth Neighbourhood Plan referendum on Thursday 21 November 2013 on behalf of Exmoor National Park Authority. The referendum was solely for residents of the Lynton & Lynmouth parish area to vote on the Lynton & Lynmouth Neighbourhood Plan.
This weeks report comes courtesy of Graham Bendell as Nigel Thompson's computer is not behaving itself!
The first obstacle for several volunteers was to navigate around the A399 road closure. Having said that there was quite a strong turnout.
One group was tasked to go to Killington Lane with the works train where work continued on the relocation of the lever frame and a start made on extending the platform at the Woody Bay end so that 4 coach trains can be accommodated at next years Autumn Gala.
With Nigel Thompson off this week to visit York to see six A4 Pacifics all lined up for the last time, I was asked to write this week's report.
Today's weather started bright and clear with a few dark clouds threatening rain. So with a reasonable number of volunteers on site we boarded the train for Killington Lane. As the running season is over for 2013, we are able to carry out work on the track without interfering with passenger trains.
Volunteers at Exmoor Associates' Working Party this weekend have unearthed what appear to be original L&B artefacts, despite the site having been visited by L&B members and supporters over many years - particularly since the land was purchased by EA in 2010 - and them having lain there undisturbed, probably since at least the 1960s.
No Halloween fancy-dress in evidence amongst the staff and volunteers today as the railway continues to attract many more visitors over the School Half Term holiday week.
As Nigel is off for a couple of days, Thursday regular Dave Bloomfield has sent us this weeks report and photos. Our thanks as always to the team at Woody Bay
Today, as the weather was bright and mild, it was a good day to undertake a few of the "outside" jobs.
An unseasonably mild, but dry autumnal day greeted the volunteers (and visitors) at Woody Bay this week. The passenger train was operating as a top and tail with steam loco AXE and Hunslet diesel HEDDON HALL.
The Thursday gang kept busy inside and outside with a variety of tasks as required.
A quieter time for visitors now, with the railway still open mid-week and weekends during October.
It has turned colder, but was bright and sunny for most of the day. AXE was working the passenger train with Graham Varney (Driver), Andy Foster (Fireman) and Bob Ayres (Guard). Tony Cross looked after the booking office/shop and his wife Irene, with Martin & June Mansfield, were the catering staff today.
Here is Nigel's first "work in progress" report since the gala
A very wet day at Woody Bay this morning, so after all the gala signs, marquees, tents, barbecues, etc. had been safely stored away until next time, everyone stayed working in the shed carrying out a variety of jobs as part of the autumn programme of tasks necessary to progress the railway. Just a few photos from inside the shed today.
