At last! Summer weather is here, even at Woody Bay!
It has been dry and sunny all week and we are all making the most of it because we know what happened the previous couple of years! So its outdoor jobs for all, aside from the engineering staff who are busy completing the work necessary to put our main steam loco AXE back into service.

This spring the volunteers of the 'Friends of Chelfham Station' group have progressed well in the early restoration stages within the station building. The L & B R's second station hosts regular work parties and is also open for Trust members and other visitors every Sunday from 11am. Over the Gala weekend in May many people turned up to view the restoration and a small but worthy sum of donations towards materials was gratefully received.
Visitors to Woody Bay on Saturday morning, 25th May, were greeted by the unusual sight of 24 VW Camper Vans in the car park.
A Rally, visiting various parts of North Devon, used the station as a convenient stopping-off point, resulting in good business for the tea rooms and a full load of passengers on the 11:30 train. Known as Type 2 vans, most of these were the classic “split-screen” versions, dating from the 1950’s. They made an impressive sight in the glorious Bank Holiday sunshine.
1. With passenger trains operating as normal today, maintenance work continues around Woody Bay Station. Dave Evans and Jim Price refurbished and repainted the poster board near the fire bucket stand and the original 'Gents' toilet.
