A large group of Railway Ramblers were on a series of organised visits in North Devon during the week.
On Wednesday 9 April, they arrived at the L&BR. Starting first at Lynton, and having ridden on the L&B at Woody Bay, they relocated to Chelfham for more refreshments, a walk and tour of the site. Later they were able to visit the Exmoor Associates-owned site at Snapper, before moving on to Bideford to see remains of the Bideford, Westward Ho! & Appledore Railway.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of L&BR Volunteer Richard Burgess on Sunday 6th of April after a long fight with cancer. Richard leaves a wife Penny and son Kris.
His funeral was held 11am Wednesday 16th April at the Barnstaple Crematorium and afterwards at The Pier-House Westward Ho! Nigel Thompson attended and has sent us this report.
Pilton East open times have been revised. The workshop is now open approx 9am to 5pm six days a week - Monday to Saturday only.

Nigel's back - and so, it seems, is the weather...
Very wet, drizzly and misty. The scheduled fishplate greasing project along the running line was postponed - visibility was limited throughout the day and actually worsening by 1600.
It's pleasing to be able to report that the working weekend has seen the completion of the project to re-fence the entire running line.
The last of the life-expired wooden posts installed some 10 years ago have all been replaced with concrete posts and steel droppers to recreate an SR style fence which will last for many years to come.
Friday and Saturday- we will be based at Woody Bay where we will continue with the re-fencing program started in January.
Sunday - Should we have completed the fencing work at Woody Bay we will move down to Blackmoor Gate to continue clearance of the old Hotel site.
Hot drinks will be provided on all days but please bring your own lunches. For more details please contact Martyn Budd 01598 763746 Mob: 07966 436403 or email Pete Snashall.
