Service of Remembrance, Woody Bay Station
1. Children from local schools sheltering under the platform canopy prior to the Act of Remembrance Service.
2. Each child lays a Poppy Cross in the Garden of Remembrance on the down platform.
3. The children form a line as they cross the tracks using the two barrow crossings.
We will remember them
A trumpeter performed the Last Post, then a two minute silence was observed by all at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month to honour all those who gave up their lives during the wars and conflicts of recent times.
4. Warden of Lee Abbey, David Rowe conducted the Remembrance Service on the platform.
5. After the service everyone was invited to enjoy a train ride on the L&BR.
6. AXE, which has its own wartime connections from working on the Western Front from 1915, was especially steamed today to operate the Remembrance Day specials.
7. AXE departs Woody Bay with a packed train of children and their teachers/assistants together with some invited guests.
8. AXE, adorned with a Poppy Wreath, returns to Woody Bay with the Remembrance Special.
9. The Remembrance Garden on the down platform.
10. The Poppy Crosses laid by the children. Each bears the name of a local family member who perished whilst on war service .
11. Later the sun came out to brighten up the view of the Remembrance Garden.
