Surrey Group


Surrey Group’s aim is to provide a local social platform for likeminded L&B enthusiasts by organising local meetings, social events at our base at Mizens’ Railway as well as opportunities to visit other places of interest.

Many of these get-togethers are not only open to our members, family and friends but also anyone who is interested in the events themselves.

As a regular occurrence, we take our well-stocked L&BR sales stand to railway events and exhibitions throughout the year which helps to promote the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway and raise funds towards its restoration.

Our next meeting will be on Saturday, 25th October for a Surrey Group General Meeting. Come along and hear all the latest news from Woody Bay.

Surrey Group at Woking Show

The next outing for the Surrey Area Group’s Sales Stand is to The Railway Enthusiasts' Club - 2014 Model Railway Exhibition Saturday 20th September and Sunday 21st September at the Woking Leisure Centre, Kingfield Road, Woking, Surrey GU22 9BA.

The exhibition includes 27 layouts, 32 traders, 7 demonstrations, and 10 societies/organisations.

UPDATE: 26 May 2014: South East Area Group Meeting on 31st May 2014

We regret to advise that L&BR Trust Chairman Peter Miles is unable to attend Woking event this Saturday as he will be in North Devon dealing with matters in connection with the Rowley Moor purchase. However, Peter has prepared some notes and the content of these will be imparted to those attending the meeting.

Surrey Group GM's Fund donation

The L&B's Surrey Support Group recently sent a cheque for £500 to the Trust Treasurer Martin Swainson. In accordance with Surrey Support Groups wishes, this has been credited to the General Manager's Equipment Fund - a restricted fund for GM Martyn Budd's discretionary purchases - and will be used as and when the opportunity arrives to purchase items required by the GM for the future development of the railway.

Surrey Area Group Projects

Our number one project is, of course, the generation of funds to reinstate of the railway. This is primarily carried out by a team headed by Geoff Kingate who attend several exhibitions and shows each year with our sales stand.

The stand has display boards with photos and maps depicting the line and the progress made thus far.
