Regular Reporter Nigel Thompson took time off from volunteering this week to host a visit from his sister Kath and brother-in-law. This special report shows scenes from the visitor perspective as Nigel showed off everything at Woody Bay to his family on rather a murky day.
Those of you who have an L&B Calendar will hopefully have seen the March photo. The picture of Woody Bay Station (above) was taken Sunday 19th March 1995.
Amongst visitors to Woody Bay Station on Saturday 4th March were Trevor and Shirley Butt, members of the family of the late Gerald Chandler. It was the most generous legacy left by Gerald to the L&B last year which permitted us to first purchase Fairview, and then Ivy Cottage, Parracombe. Trevor and Shirley were awarded a lifetime privilege pass in recognition of Gerald's pivotal contribution to the L&B.
We are sure all will be delighted to hear that the L&BR Trust has not only sold the property Fairview (naturally retaining the trackbed) to one of our supporters, but also recently purchased "Ivy Cottage" - just down the road from Fairview.
The main benefit of this purchase is that at the back of Ivy Cottage there is a significant section of the Parracombe Halt site and trackbed. It is intended that this will also be separated from the main property before that is sold on.
