It’s a small world

Once again, the Surrey Group’s New Year lunch was a hit with all guests and members appearing to enjoy the good food and good conversation as promised at The Maybury Inn near Woking.

Unfortunately, our chairman was unable to come along as his car broke down at Tiverton on his way up from Bideford. Sorry you missed this one Barry – better luck next time!

L&B Surrey Group Lunch

It’s nice to meet up – Surrey Members and Guests

This year we advertised the event on the main L&B website to any Trust member that would like to come along. Something I believe we will be doing again so watch this space.

We were pleased to welcome David Cameron, Co-director of Exmoor Associates, who took the opportunity of joining us despite living so far away. The open invite led to a meet up of two people with surprisingly parallel life histories involving not only the railways but canals and even the same areas of South Africa and Glasgow. It was a pleasure to eavesdrop on the conversations of mutual site-seeing places, schooling and residences and in fact to see such enthusiasm and interaction between everyone.

Good Food and Good Conversation

Thank you also for the generous donations totalling over £60 which everyone contributed to and which Richard enabled by providing some discount vouchers. Not only will Surrey Group be able to send this on to L&B projects it supports but the Trust will also be able to recoup gift aid on this when the time comes.

Our next meeting will be our Surrey Group AGM on Saturday 27th April and we are hoping that this will be followed by train rides on the Woking Miniature Railway at Mizens. Further information will be posted on this site in due course.

2019 feels quite exciting for our group as there is a lot of enthusiasm for visiting places and getting together with fellow L&B’ers. – great fun.
