Thames Valley Report: Fawley Hill Show

During the weekend of 17/18th May The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway was just one of the many groups with a stand at the Fawley Hill Show. See HERE for details of what you missed if you were unable to get there and to remind you of what you saw if you were able to make a visit.

Many thanks to Robin and Angela Horne for setting up and manning the stand – they even camped under canvas for the whole weekend, such is their dedication to ‘our railway’!

Grateful thanks also to Roger Beazer and Jan & Phil Rawstron for their help during the weekend. This was most certainly a joint effort by members of both the Thames Valley and Surrey Area Support Groups.

I have been told that visitors on the Sunday were more numerous than on the Saturday. Saturday was FA Cup Final Day so perhaps that had some impact!

Hundreds of L&B leaflets were distributed to visitors. Countless conversations took place. Sales of L&B merchandise produced some useful funds for the railway. We also took the opportunity to sell many tickets for the L&B Summer Draw.

1.  The impressive display before the grass had been trampled down by the hundreds of visitors to our stand

2.  Just a few of the many and varied other exhibits. The traction engine was in motion, but fortunately not as close to our display as the photo might suggest!

3. Phil Rawstron signs a copy of the Brown, Prideaux and Radcliffe 2010 edition for a grateful customer.

4. Angela and Robin take a well deserved five minutes rest!!
