Devon Group Trip to Falmouth - 20th June

This belated report from Nigel Thompson - five intrepid Devon Group members headed out to Falmouth on Wednesday 20th June

1. From Barnstaple to Exeter to Truro to change for the busy branch line to Falmouth Docks, Falmouth's original station. Four of the group pose by the Class 150. Dave Evans appears distracted.

2. At the viewing point we looked down to where the Royal Navy's fleet support ship RFA Argus is undergoing a refit in Falmouth Docks.

3. Lunch and beer for all - as seen from behind the bar at the Waterside Inn.

4. Soon it was time to return home from Falmouth Town Station as the unit is approaching. This station has an interesting history being opened as "Falmouth" 7 December 1970 when the Falmouth branch line was cut back by 845 metres (924 yd) to terminate here.  The platform was made of components from Perranporth Beach Halt (closed 1963. The original Falmouth station was reopened on 5 May 1975 when this station was renamed "The Dell". On 15 May 1989 the original station was renamed Falmouth Docks and "The Dell" renamed Falmouth Town.

5. Back at Exeter enjoying a beer at the Great Western Hotel before the last train at 21:00 back to Barnstaple.
