Devon Group rail trip to Plymouth

Wednesday 15 November

1. 2. 3. & 4. Several L & B Trust members travelled to Plymouth to pay their remembrance respects and to view the spectacular Poppy Wave at the war memorial on the Hoe.

From the Hoe we took a walk down to the Barbican.

5. Lunch for us all was at the Gog and Magog Wetherspoons pub.

Then a walk around the Barbican.

6. & 7. Sitting outside for tea and cake at a cafe overlooking Cattewater and Mount Batten.

8. Our scheduled X Country HST back to Exeter was cancelled due to a late running inbound service turned back at Totnes, so we awaited the 1602 Plymouth to Paddington service formed of a usual Great Western Railway HST.

Earlier in the day we saw a brand new Hitachi Class 802 on a driver raining run to Cornwall. These long awaited IEPs will soon replace the iconic 40+ year old HSTs running to the south west.  I expect during our trips in 2018 the volunteers will have their chance to sample the Bi-mode Class 802s into Devon and Cornwall.
Next rail trip includes the Xmas lunch in Exeter on Wed 6 Dec. Advance booking only to secure a table place.
