Devon Group Christmas Rail Trip

Wednesday 11th December

Nineteen L&B Trust members and volunteers went to Exmouth for the pre-planned, booked and reserved Christmas Meal at Wetherspoons Powder Monkey.

1. Most came by train direct from Barnstaple. Probably the last time we could do this as next week's new GWR timetable, sees the Barnstaple trains turning back after Exeter Central in order to provide a more frequent service on the Tarka Line.

After some time for a stroll around Exmouth, via the market, a cafe, the Model shop and the promenade, it was time to rendezvous with everyone at the Powder Monkey.

2, 3. & 4. At Wetherspoons the staff had arranged this massive table arrangement to accommodate everyone. It was very sociable as we all enjoyed a pre-dinner drink.

The Christmas meal and dessert were served promptly as planned at 14:00. Excellent value for money and good service by all the staff concerned.

5. Later as everyone resumed their train travel home, there was time for a short rail trip for some to Starcross for a pint at the Atmospheric Railway Inn. Also time too for another stop at our old favourite, The Beer Engine at Newton St Cyres.
