Work in Progress - Thursday 18th June

Regular contributer Nigel Thompson is away on holiday this week, but another of the Thursday Gang has sent in this report:
Martyn Budd, with assistance from Brom Bromidge and Richard Drewer (a team comprising solely of Directors and Trustees) spent the day strimming and clearing the grass and weeds from alongside the track from Bridge 67 down to Killington Lane. Martyn had already sprayed weedkiller between Woody Bay and Bridge 67, but due to inclement weather (it had been very wet earlier in the week and there were a number of heavy showers during the day) they had to resort to mechanical means of keeping the growth in check.

Meanwhile another team; Dave Tooke and John Villers, worked their way steadily from Killington Lane up to Woody Bay checking every fishplate bolt. Following the fishplate greasing done over Easter and earlier this month, the passage of trains had slackened some of the nuts and a further tightening became necessary.

Our electrician, Richard Burgess, was busy starting to wire up the machine shop that is being created within the new extension to the shed, and on the operating side the loco crew, shop and catering volunteers were all busy as usual with a healthy load of passengers on most trains including a morning and afternoon coach party.
