Work in Progress - Thursday 11th December

Tidying Woody Bay Woodland and Completing Toilet Fencing.

The woodland area just down from Woody Bay Station is gradually being cleared and tidied by volunteers in the Thursday Group. This area, some 1.6 acres, has been rented from Moorlands since 2007 and will eventually form an attraction including a childrens play area and woodland walk with access from the Barnstaple end of the down platform.

So far several walkways have been created and many fallen trees have been sawn up and removed freeing up space in the woodland. Any trees felled within the woodland have been so under the full permission and guidance from Exmoor National Park.

The other volunteers on site today completed installing the fence to the path leading to the toilet block. After digging holes for the old rail-built posts, the remaining timber fence was fixed in place around a corner to meet the building. As well as keeping visitors to the toilets safely away from any train movements in the loading dock, the fenced area also creates an ideal photographers' viewpoint to observe the trains as they return uphill into Woody Bay Station.

4. With the remaining posts installed, volunteers fix the wooden fence in place.

5. Finishing off the corner of the new toilet fence
