Woody Bay Transhipment siding (continued).

On the Saturday Martyn Budd with the digger regraded the formation to the exact lower uniform levels as surveyed by Alistair Hall using the high-tech laser sight system. So on Sunday the track gang were to relay the siding, connect at both ends and begin ballasting and levelling to the correct level.

5. The surplus spoil from the regraded formation was landscaped into the bank.



6. The works train was brought alongside to begin dropping the recycled ballast back into the relaid siding.

No photo report for Thursday 15th as Nigel was enjoying his holiday visiting the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.  However, Martyn Budd and Richard Willey, unaided, finished off the ballasting of the transhipment siding with some jacking and packing further up nearer the car park gate.  This project completed at virtually no cost will now enable heavier locomotives and rolling stock (such as LYD) to be safely transhipped at Woody Bay in order to operate at future Galas.

The siding is of course also regularly used during the shunt moves of various wagons required to continue to operate and maintain the railway.
