With a good size gang available today, as the indoor shed group continued work on the rolling stock projects, the outdoor gang were tasked with another small re-railing project at Woody Bay.
1. From the rail store at Killington Lane two rails were selected and measured to length.
2. Martyn Budd cuts the rails to the exact length required.
3. The job in question is to re-rail a short length of track which links the main crossover with the loading dock turnout. These worn rails have resulted in a small stepped joint which produces unnecessary wear and tear on the wheelsets and suspension of locos and rolling stock during regular shunt moves across here.
4. With the new rails brought to site the cut ends are drilled with new fishplate bolt holes.
5. This length is 'Pandrol' clipped onto plates and so was a very easy job to remove the old rails.
6. Standing back whilst AXE approaches with the passenger train.
7. Regular weekend guard, Steve Ball who joined the Thursday group today, bangs in the 'Pandrol' clips on the new length.
8. Today's Guard Chris Dadson chats to Martyn Budd whilst Steve and Pete Colley knock in the clips.
9. After lunch the gang armed with crow bars attempted to pull out some minor kinks along the up platform line.
10. Rail level view along the line showing the slight kink that we slewed out.
11. The gang slewing the track straight on the headshunt siding.

12. Resting and posing with the crowbars whilst AXE heads into the station with an afternoon service.
13. Next we adjourned to the shed to 'assist' the indoor group there. Richard and Steve paint the original L & B brake column which is destined to be installed in new heritage carriage No.17.
14. The bogie weltrol also experienced similar treatment as everyone able to paint descended upon the wagon to give it an all-over coat of works grey.
Light Hearted Moments............
15. John O'Dell uses a chisel to open his pack of custard cream biscuits to go with his afternoon tea!
16. Regular Thursday fireman Jim Price, was presented with a 'special application form' to rejoin the Thursday outdoor group upon completion of the operating season next month. A standing joke has existed this summer between Jim and the other volunteers after his choice of Thursday 'work'.
