Work In Progress: 29th March

Almost summer like weather this week with hot and sunny conditions even in March! The railway opened for the 2012 season with steam locomotive SID operating with 3 carriages. A few visitors were about to keep Dave Tooke busy in the booking office/shop and Judy Williams with the tea rooms catering.

1. An early spring like view as SID comes off its train to run round at Woody Bay.

2. SID's Driver today was David Pritchard.

3. SID returns to Woody Bay with the passenger train.

4. SID at Woody Bay as the passengers alight.

5. A different view from the Down starter signal post platform of the train with SID ready to depart with an afternoon service.

6. In between trains Hunslet diesel HEDDON HALL shunts AXE (with a repainted front end) to and from the roads into the shed.

7. Last week the casting programme begun for the concrete point rodding horses. The fourth one was cast today. Once again thanks to the Swanage Railway for the loan of their casting block.

8. It was all landscaping and gardening work today for the Thursday group volunteers. Andy Foster digs in and plants some bushes to form a small hedge line above the new marquee site.

9. Next was to tidy up and rake off the roots from the new sloping path into the woodland area. John Heys (left) and Nigel Thompson rake down the stones and twigs off this path. Later grass seed was sown over the whole path length.

10. Dave Bloomfield and John O'Dell begin work on a wooden fence by the edge of this path at the end of the down platform.

11. Martyn Budd and John Heys bang down a wooden fence post by the path.

12. The fence takes shape heading down the path edge as Martyn creocotes the completed sections.

13. Looking down onto John O'Dell as he saws off the next section.
