Work in Progress: 27 October

Its half-term in most of the UK this week and there has been quite a few visitors and locals about enjoying the few tourist attractions still open and the end of this season. Numbers travelling on the L&B this week have been quite healthy as the railway begins to prepare for the closed winter season (apart from the few special events such as Armistice Day and the Santa Specials).

Today the weather was wet all day, so leaving the operating staff to brave the elements with the train, the rest of the Thursday group migrated under cover to work in the shed or under the station canopy.

 1. The former parlour window frames have been stripped back to bare wood. Don Brereton paints wood primer onto them under the station canopy.

 2. In the shed John O'Dell and Dave Bloomfield cut new wood planks for the decking of the bogie flat wagon.

 3. This bogie wagon will soon be extensively worked on by visiting Surrey Area Group members, as they clean up and repaint the frames and fix the new planks. Once in service this wagon will be used for rail and sleeper carrying during track laying operations.

 4. The phone box has been moved into the shed for stripping, repair and eventual repainting.

 5. Richard Willey grinding off layers of old faded red paint from the telephone box.

 6. Several other under cover jobs were undertaken. In the workshop, Graham Varney and Martin Andrews pose for the camera after some tidying work.
