Continuing 'poor' weather this August has seen a useful rise in passenger numbers at Woody Bay this week as the visitors seek alternative tourist attractions to the beach and coastline. Many families from all over the UK and beyond have enjoyed their first ever visit to the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway and the favourable comments to the staff and volunteers on duty have been very welcome during this busy period.

1. Todays train was operated by steam locomotive -SID.

2. SID uncouples from the train at Woody Bay.

5. In the booking office Tony Cross (left) was assisted today by visiting member David Mead (right) from Hampshire.

With General Manager Martyn Budd and several others from the usual Thursday gang absent due to holiday and other commitments, it was left to Nigel Thompson who welcomed new volunteers; Don Askew from Somerset and Jim McFarlane from Barnstaple, to carry out some allotted garden and grounds maintenance. The approach path from the car park was strimmed down and tidied up. Don expertly strimmed several other areas around the site including the sides along the whole length of the 7.25" Garden Railway which is hoped to be in operation for the forthcoming Gala.
