Work in Progress: 24th May

Roadworks TriangleOrange people, Grahams, Lyns, and Judy!

Another great day for the railway. Plenty of visitors enjoying the ride behind LYN, Orange Outdoor Gang busy with trackwork and fencing projects, and the farewell presentation to catering manager, Judy Williams.

1. LYN arrives at Woody Bay.

2. LYN departs Woody Bay.

3. Two LYNs! LYN with regular volunteer and gala exhibitors marquee organiser Lindsay Palmer - enjoying a social visit today.

4. Two Grahams! Graham Bridge fireman; with Graham Varney LYN's driver today.

5. Two Guards! Jim Price and Bob Ayres take a platform seat with Carriage No. 16 stabled in the loading dock behind.

6. Two Paint Shop Boys. Jim Pounds and Barrie Cann are installing some storage shelving in their paint shop home.

7. New overall badges for the L & B Paint Shop Boys as modelled by Jim and Barrie.

8. LYN approaching Killington Lane with the first train of the day. Graham Varney driving, and Graham Bridge firing.

9. Near Rowley Moor Farm a new fence is to be erected. The line of original posts clearly visible.

10.The Thursday Gang clearing the shrubbery before the new posts can be put in.

11. The concrete fence posts previously laboriously-loaded into the trailer (see 19 April WIP) were distributed along and near the track bed in the land adjoining Rowley Moor Farm.

12. After laying out the some of posts in their proposed locations, the team shared the heavy work lifting the remaining posts from the trailer, and stacking them for future use.

13. & 14. The afternoon's entertainment was clearing the trackbed fence-line in preparation for reinstating the fence.  This required the cutting-up of previously felled wood, and moving it away from the fence-line - unfortunately up a steep slope!

15. This week we feature Steve at work, to make up for his lack of appearance in last week's report!

16. At the afternoon tea-break, L&B Catering Manager Judy Williams was surprised by a presentation.

17. & 18. Retiring' from the railway this month, Judy was presented with a bottle of Prosecco, flowers, and a card signed by all the volunteers and staff.

19. Judy has certainly transformed the catering in her eight years at the railway, producing very healthy trading figures as well as many excellent reviews and favourable comments.

20. As she is leaving the area, Judy will be sorely missed by everyone. Thank you Judy, for all you've done.
