Work in Progress: 23rd February

1. The main job today was to install a gulley drain in front of Woody Bay station which would help to prevent a reoccurance of the flooding inside last January. Nigel Thompson supplies some dry mix cement for Martyn Budd to fix the plastic gulley pipe drain in place.

2. Nigel tips in the cement mix into the trench, whilst Martyn tamps it down smooth.

3. The gulley sections will stand on the pegs with a fall towards the manhole drains.

4. Graham Varney and Dave Bloomfield mix up the cement and aggregate on the platform.

5. Nigel waits for another wheelbarrow load from the cement mixer.

6. Behind the original Gents toilet the drain is laid and cut to length to fit into the manhole there.

7. The gulley pipes are all connected up in front of the station building. When dry a final layer of cement will be laid flush with the limestone surface of the outside tea rooms area.

8. After finishing the refurbishment of the down home signal, signalling engineer, Dick Gunn carries out some maintenance on the down starter signal.

9. Somewhat easier lower post here as Dick works on the down starter signal at Woody Bay.

10. In the shed Dave Drayson adjusts a sliding door window in one of the compartments of the carriages currently inside for a few adjustments this winter.

11. Chris Carder in the workshop fashions some brake rodding for Hunslet diesel D6652 nearing completion.

12. Tim Woods and John O'Dell paint the wooden framework for the KILLINGTON LANE running-in board.

13. AXE was brought outside for some maintenance.

14. In the base of AXE's smokebox a layer of cement is laid in place to prevent corrosion and aid the cleaning out of the ash after each steaming. This common practice is also carried out on many other steam locomotives.

15. This is the final ex MoD Bogie Flat from the store at Chelfham, now recently regauged and with the brake gear fitted this wagon can now be refurbished and converted as planned to another bogie open similar to SR No.28320 in service for the locomotive coal storage and transport.
