Work in Progress: 20 January

A very full turnout of at least 15 volunteers today in the cold but bright sunny weather at Woody Bay. Various tasks were on offer including some rolling stock maintenance in the shed, further point rodding work alongside the coal stage, the replacement of several suspended roof lights in the shed, some grounds work by the pedestrian gate and the permanent way work along the line near Bridge 67.

This work was continuing the rail recovery, moving the replaced rails from the curve east of Bridge 67 down the line to Killington Lane Station. Later this winter the short 15' rails in both the loop and the station will be replaced with the secondhand 30' rails which became spare after the November trackbash rail renewals.

5. A very busy mess room at Woody Bay with all the Thursday Group volunteers enjoying their lunch break.
All members and volunteers are welcome to join us during these work parties from 10am every Thursday (for other days please enquire). A wide range of abilities are catered for including many unskilled and less physical tasks. The winter works programme for 2011 is already achieving several objectives but many more can also be completed as the railway prepares itself for the coming operating season.
