Roadworks TriangleGetting ready for the Gala!



This latest Thursday Gang Report comes from Nigel Thompson.


1. Firstly, not forgetting today's train operations. Having successfully passed it's 10 year boiler check, AXE was at work today with 3 carriages with Driver Graham Bridge and Fireman Tom Woods.

2. Our Guard today was Dave Evans seen here operating the signal cabin levers.


3. In the shed the engineering team were busy with some maintenance tasks on LYN and ISAAC - making sure all is well ready for the Gala.

4. This is the new adapter coupler to allow the ex South African Railways DZ wagons to be coupled to the carriages for the mixed trains that will be operating over the Gala. Paint Shop Boy Phil cleans up the new metal ready for painting.

5. Paint Shop Boy and Barbecue Chef Jim Pounds fits some new burners to the railway's Barbecues.


6. Outside, Paint Shop Boy Geoff Long gives the Telephone box another coat of Post Office Red.

7. The Paint Shop Boy's last project was to repaint the DZ wagon. Now loaded with coal and ready to be included in the mixed trains next weekend.


8. Strimming was taking place both at Woody Bay and Killington Lane. Keith Lamprey pauses for the camera after a spell with the strimmer around the entrance to the overflow car park field.  Several of the Thursday Gang were engaged in further tidying-up tasks i preparation for next weeks Gala.


9. As part of the upgrade to our provision of visitor information, the locomotive information panels attached to the shed viewing fence - previously managed and updated by Nigel Thompson - have now been updated to separate and durable boards for each of the various locos. here, Nigel fixes the board for FAITH with ISAAC stabled behind.


10. Boards for FAITH, PILTON and the HUNSLET diesels are now affixed to the fence.

11. Hunslet diesel HEDDON HALL shunts into the shed with the information boards now in place.

12. Earlier ISAAC was shunting LYN in the yard - with all the relevant boards giving information for these locos to our visitors.
