The winter weather continues on west Exmoor with the threat of further heavy snow later this week. Prior to that rain was forecast after lunch, so the main outdoor task was begun shortly after the morning tea break.
Next January's work party weekend (28-30th Jan) will include a fencing project at the railway's land in Parracombe - Cricket Field Lane. Todays job was to transport a quantity of concrete fence posts from the store near Killington Lane to the trackbed at Cricket Field Lane.
1. Concrete fence posts in store near Killington Lane.
2. Lifting the posts onto the trailer.
3. A heavy load on the trailer ready for the short distance run to Parracombe.
4. The trailer is backed up Cricket Field Lane towards the trackbed.
5. The digger has been in use at Cricket Field Lane this week and was available to lift off the posts from the trailer to store on the trackbed.
6. The digger with the flail head attached has cut down all the overgrown brambles on the land at Cricket Field Lane this week to reveal again the trackbed looking north towards Woody Bay. Jim McFarlane poses by our trackbed in Parracombe.
After lunch the rain fell and everyone retreated into the station building and shed to carry out various tasks:
- More inside preparations for this weekends and next weeks Santa Specials.
- Restoration work on the MOD Brake Van
- Upgrading and rewiring of several cable runs for better lighting in the shed.
As this is likely to be the last weekly 'Work in Progress' report before Xmas, I would like to wish all members, volunteers and regular readers of this section of the website a very Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year.
Best wishes to all for 2011.
