Work in Progress - 15th April

It was a busy operating day near the end of the Easter Holidays and several of the usual Thursday gang were again involved with the passenger trains.

However, before the first train at 10:30 a short works train was run with HEDDON HALL and MOD flat No.52 taking a pallet of new base plates down the line. These base plates were obtained through the exchange of some surplus 60lb rail.  These plates will be used to replace some of the “temporary” spiked base plates installed during the 2008-9 programme of renewing the short lengths of rail with the longer 30' lengths.

It was a beautiful sunny day today at Woody Bay and Nigel Thompson took the opportunity of the lineside photography in between the fishplate greasing.

The main job for the Thursday group today was to continue the fishplate greasing. Martyn Budd, Nigel Thompson and Graham Bendell worked on all the rail joints at the main crossover and down the line below the car park almost as far as the site of filled in cattle creep (Bridge 68).
