Taking advantage of a dry morning before the forecast rain arrives later, the Thursday ‘outdoor’ gang worked along the line changing a couple of rotten sleepers and adjusting the ‘shims’ at a rail joint.
1. John Villers, Martyn Budd and Dave Bloomfield repack around a newly installed sleeper, with the old split and rotten one alongside.
2. The next sleeper to be changed was marked by a white cross.
3. Martyn & John heave out the old sleeper.
4. Dave, John, Graham & Martyn work around the newly installed sleeper.
5. Today’s locomotive was AXE, seen running round at Woody Bay.
6. With the trolley, the dogs, and the gang all clear of the line, AXE passes with a mid-morning passenger train.
7. AXE with the train climbing towards Woody Bay.
8. A platform view as AXE arrives with an afternoon service.
9. In the shed, John Villers does some restoration work on the telephone box, Hunslet diesel D6652 is stabled behind.
10. Les Franklin painting SR Brown onto Box Van No. 62.
11. Posing together at the end of Box Van No. 62; Les, John O’Dell, Dave Bloomfield and Dave Drayson.
12. Almost all of the volunteers on site today enjoy their 3pm tea and cake break in the marquee.
