9/11 - The World changed that day.
Thirteen years ago that too was a work party day at Woody Bay. Whilst during the internal station restoration work, I remember clearly going back to move my car and hearing the radio news. At first it sounded like a film script with the airliners crashing into the twin towers at New York. We spent the day tuned to the radio as the events unfolded...
No real drama at Woody Bay today - but still great sunny weather, coach parties, the town crier on site, and lots of visitors enjoying their L&B experience, with AXE working the three heritage carriages. The train crew, shop and catering volunteers & staff were all busy. For the Thursday Gang, just a few tasks to do at Woody Bay and Killington Lane.
1. Dave Drayson and Dave Evans painting another coat of creocote onto the Killington Lane waiting shelter, constructed earlier this year by members of the Surrey Area Group.
2. Jim Price in the doorway was measuring up for something or other to go into the waiting shelter.
3. AXE arrives as Dave Drayson paints the rear of the shelter.
4. A fine view of AXE in sunshine waiting to depart from Killington Lane.
5. In the shed at Woody Bay, Martin Williams and Mike Corner are wire-brushing a section of railing.
6. Rob Shortman and Les Squance paint primer onto the panel that was cleaned last week. The restored former Pilton crossing gates are in the background.
7. Relaxing at Woody Bay in the afternoon sunshine on one platform seat are Martin, Les and Rob whilst Mike is all alone on a seat further along.
