This weeks report is once again provided by Nigel Thompson.
The main gang started their sleeper replacement programme along the line today in good weather. However after lunch, the clouds thickened and the mist descended - visibility at 1000 feet up on Exmoor became limited.
1. Woody Bay in winter sunshine - frost on the sleepers.
2. & 3 The track gang working near Bridge 67.
4. Work goes on, but always time for a social chat.
5. Loading old sleepers hopefully for resale.
6. & 7. The weather closes in.
8. A misty finish! A total of 19 sleepers were replaced today.
9. Other work underway today included a grease-up of the point prodding cranks at Woody Bay carried out by Brandon and Don.
10. Last week the line to the shed by the coaling stage was relaid onto new sleepers. This has now been completed, ballasted and tamped and is now in use with LYN stabled on it. PILTON is alongside.
11. Inside the shed, Dave Evans is making progress with his woodworking project, to fit the enclosure around the extended workshop.
12. Barrie Cann returns this week after a New Year holiday to resume his varnishing of more coats onto the droplight windows of Carriage No.17.
13. Geoff Long prepares more areas to touch-up whilst...
14. .....Jim Pounds applies undercoat primer to areas around the window frames.
