Taking advantage of some dry weather, the majority of the Thursday Gang spent the morning at Killington Lane where work continued with the alterations to the platform required to accomodate the longer and wider heritage carriages when they arrive later this year.
1. Despite help or hinderance from the dogs, Martin Williams, John Heys and Martyn Budd begin digging out a trench behind the existing concrete blocks along the platform edge.
2. John scrapes out the trench ready for the full-length standard gauge sleeper to be laid in place.
3. Martin W. advances the trench along to almost opposite the waiting shelter.
4. HEDDON HALL with our works train today. The excavator was on hand to lift the longer heavy sleepers from the stack to place directly into the trench.
5. This is a view from the platform extension - laid earlier - which will accommodate the length of three heritage carriages.
6. Brom Bromidge also came down to inspect progress. The extra platform edge formed of sleepers is at the correct position for the heritage carriages expected in service later this year. Meanwhile the concrete blocks will continue to be the existing edge for the 4 smaller (ex Thorpe Park framed) carriages whilst they remain in service for the commencement of the 2013 season.
7. In the shed, John O'Dell continued work to finish the roofing felt on the wooden covers over the bogie open wagon, being used for equipment storage.
8. Looking down from the balcony onto the flat wagon currently used as a bench for the painting of some restored equipment such as signal levers.
9. Martin Williams wire-brushing and cleaning up more signalling parts from the recently acquired items purchased using the General Manager's Equipment Fund. Thanks to all those who by contributing made this view possible.
