Track Relaying at Killington Lane

Monday 7th January, one of several bitterly cold days recently, but volunteers and staff were again on site to assist contractors in the relaying of the track into Killington Lane. This was necessary due to the height above formation, which gave a "hump" to the track in the vicinity of the second accommodation crossing.

Over the previous weekend our permanent way consultant, Alastair Hall, had produced a survey and set the pegs so that the formation could be scraped using a vehicle fitted with a laser to accurately set the levels. After ballasting the track there remains much packing to be done, but it will all be as it should and looking tidy by the time the railway reopens in March.

There is a big track working party over the weekend of the 19th and 20th January - if you are at a loose end and fancy lending a hand, please get in touch!
