Richard Bullock RIP

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you all that Richard Bullock, member of the L&B Surrey Group, their Man in the East and one of our East Group volunteers passed away recently after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Richard has been one of our regular volunteers, travelling from Surrey nearly every week for many years now and has been involved in all our heritage carriages.

When Richard came to us he said quite honestly he did not know anything about woodwork or painting, we taught him many skills over time and he became one of our best workers being involved in anything from machining, painting and one task he thought quite amusing, "Shifting wood from A to B". I never did give him his certificate for that! He always commented on his role as being "Master Wood Shifter" or (once he had learnt to paint), " Surface Treatment Officer".

His support for the Railway was immense, promoting the railway whenever he could and along side volunteering with us at the East Group Workshops was for a time also travelling to Woody Bay training to be a Fireman.

Richard will be sorely missed, not only as a volunteer, but a great friend to us all.

Here are the details of Richard's funeral :

Richards funeral ceremony was held at 2 p.m. on Monday 25th November at Randall's Park Crematorium, Randall's Road, Leatherhead, Surrey, KT22 OAG.

Richard's wish was that, rather than flowers, donations in his memory should be made to either the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Trust, of which he was extremely fond, or the Princess Alice Hospice which is a local charity that provided much needed support. This can be done by sending a cheque made payable to the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Trust and forwarding to the funeral directors:- Alan Greenwood & Sons, 57 Fleece Road, Long Ditton, Surrey, KT6 5JR.

They will accept donations up to four weeks after the funeral and also collect cheques on the day.

After the service light refreshments were served at The Woodman, 238 Barnett Wood Lane, Ashtead, Surrey, KT21 2DA.
