The children of the West Exmoor Federation of Schools (Lynton, Parracombe and Kentisbury) came to Woody Bay Station on Remembrance Day, Wednesday 11 November, for their now traditional Remembrance Day service.
1. The service was led this year by the Rector of Bratton Fleming, Reverend Rosie Austin (in the light green coat).
After observing the two minutes' silence at 11 o'clock the children planted little wooden crosses in the Garden of Remembrance on the down platform and then went for a ride on the train before returning to school.
The train was headed by AXE, which was built in 1915 (one hundred years ago in July) to carry supplies to the troops in the trenches on the Western Front in northern France during the First World War.
2. Three boys who had read poems in the service stood proudly next to AXE afterwards with Rev Austin and their headteacher, Mrs Jayne Peacock.
Mrs Peacock commented afterwards: "Thank you so much for this morning - a lovely way for the children to mark Armistice Day and a great 'tradition' that has been established."
