Parracombe Halt is ours!

The L&B Trust is delighted to announce that it is the new owner of 'The Halt' at Parracombe. More importantly, not only does the L&B own another station - but perhaps more significantly, for the first time in our history - as we own all the trackbed from Woody Bay Station to and including Parracombe Halt - we have joined up two of the L&B's long-closed stations.

In due course the site will be returned to what it was just under forty years ago. In the meantime, the property is tenanted and will remain so for the near future. We ask that you please respect our tenants privacy.

The purchase of the halt was made possible by a substantial legacy from Rick & Barbara Sayers - Rick passed away in 2019 and Barbara just last year. Both were great supporters of the L&B and were regular visitors. Most will remember them from their time working the L&B sales stand in the marquee at our Galas. A plaque commemorating their role in securing the site will be affixed to the station shelter when that is renovated.

As part of the deal, the Trust also purchased the infilled Rowley Cross Cutting - extending our ownership of L&B trackbed all the way from Holwell Wood to Rowley Cross.

Also, included in this purchase are various other parcels of land that will be sold on.

These two sections of railway are an important and vital part of extending our land holdings both towards rebuilding and reopening but also towards the length of line we need to unlock the TWAO application. A very good start to the year and a great cause for optimism for the future!

Once again the Land Purchase Fund is open and ready to receive donations to refill the coffers ready for the next piece of trackbed that comes our way. Meanwhile an appeal has been launched to raise funds to bridge the gap between Rick & Barbara's contribution and the total costs. The target is £150,000.

The Trust is always very grateful for all contributions towards our appeals - be they large or small - and can claim a further 25% in Gift Aid on your donations too.
