Lyd Lives! - Video

After a 20 year planning, fundraising and building project, replica L&B Manning Wardle LYD moved under its own steam power for the first time this afternoon. (5th August), at Boston Lodge in Wales.

James Evans, Paul Lewin and a small team have built the loco to run on the Welsh Highland and Ffestiniog Railways in Wales, but LYD will be seen further South from time to time.

Based closely on "LEW" built for the Southern Railway in 1925, LYD has a modified roof profile (adjustable, so it can be made to look like the original) to passage through the restricted loading gauge at Gernodd tunnel on the Ffestiniog.

Our thanks to Roger Dimmick who recorded a short video of the event and posted it on YouTube:

and to Chris Parry, who a little later the same day, filmed this shunting sequence...

Currently finished in an all-black livery for running-in trials, LYD will eventually (probably over the winter) be repainted in an authentic 1920's Southern Livery.

LYD is expected to visit Woody Bay in September. Look out for further details.
