The Local Plan

An important message from Ian Cowling, L&B Trustee:

The North Devon and Torridge Local Plan is out for pre-publication consultation until 15th March 2013. The reinstatement of our railway is favourably supported. I urge you to view the documents and sign up to comment on-line.

Those of you living in the area will probably be interested in the developments proposed for your local towns.

The draft Local Plan can be accessed through the Councils’ websites: www.northdevon.gov.uk/localplan and www.torridge.gov.uk/localplan

The draft Local Plan is also available for inspection at the Councils’ principal and area offices and in local libraries during the consultation period.

The Councils are encouraging respondents to make comments online; a related guide has been prepared to aid this method of response, which is available through the referenced websites. Alternatively, your comments can be emailed to: localplan@northdevon.gov.uk If you intend to send your comments in paper format, they should be sent to: Planning Policy Team, North Devon Council, Civic Centre, Barnstaple, Devon, EX31 1EA Any comments you wish to make must be received no later than 5pm on 15th March 2013, from when they will be treated as a public document.

Comments received after this time will not be considered by the District Councils in taking the plan forward. I would warn against printing the document (300 pages) but you can download a copy (16Mb) to browse at your leisure.

The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway is referenced in:
  • Paragraph 4.77 (page 50) - (Adobe Acrobat Page 57)
  • Paragraphs 10.62 and 10.63 (page 123) - (Adobe Acrobat Page 130)
  • Figure 10.2 (page 129) - (Adobe Acrobat Page 136)

If viewing the document online you can insert your comments or you can e-mail or write comments to the Councils. Please make it clear in the text of your comment that you support this proposal. There will be a further consultation in June-July and the plan should be finally adopted in Spring 2014!
