L&B supporter Ben Vincer has developed a computer simulation of the L&B, which runs on Microsoft Train Simulator, replicating the modern (and near-future) -image L&B.
Ben writes:
A little bit about myself and the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway route for Microsoft Train Simulator…
Microsoft Train Simulator was released in 2001. Ground breaking software, it allowed people the opportunity to drive locomotives from the comfort of their own homes. Updates for the program have allowed it to move with the times and a wide support network of developers has ensured that a steady stream of expansion packs and other add-ons have followed.
After receiving the ‘Lynton and Barnstaple: Measured and Drawn’ book I decided to put it to work in creating the reconstructed section of the Lynton and Barnstaple railway route along with an accompanying stock pack which features the current locomotives and rolling stock, including the brand new heritage coaches. The route has been accurately modelled using precise terrain information and aerial images and the stock benefits from a range of photos collected during a visit in 2011.
Microsoft Train Simulator is still available from many online retailers and with the Lynton and Barnstaple Pack from Bubble’s Railways (www.bubblesrailways.co.uk) you can be up and driving on the L&B within no time at all!
The packs are available from Bubble’s Railways and the items below are all included: (All locomotives are driveable)
Best of all – the L&BR route is available for free from Bubble’s Railways and the stock pack is available at a small additional cost (£5). If you don't already have a copy, MSTS is also available, from about £12
